What could possibly be cuter than these fluffy, heart shaped pancakes? Like, really!
I made pancakes for the very first time recently and with Valentine’s day less than a week away, I went the extra mile to make them super special! 😉 I know I could still use a little work with achieving a perfectly round shape, but they ooze such an imperfectly-perfect, homemade appeal and they tasted pretty damn good!
Pancakes don’t make the world go round. Pancakes are what makes the ride worthwhile.

Heart Shaped Pancakes Ingredients:
~ 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
~ 1 tbsp baking powder
~ 3 tbsp sugar
~ 1 1/4 cups milk
~ 4 tsp butter
~ 1 pinch salt
~ 1 egg
~ Red food colouring
~ Heart-shaped cookie cutter (available at House Of Leather)
~ 1 tbsp lemon, or any other extract of your choice
~ Icing sugar (optional)
~ Raspberries/strawberries or any other fruit of choice
~ Syrup of choice (optional)
~Whisk all the flour, baking powder, sugar and salt in a sizeable bowl. Be sure to aerate the flour and baking powder by passing them through a sieve. This will make your measurements more accurate.
~ In a separate dish, warm the milk until lukewarm, not hot. Mix the milk, melted butter, egg and your extract of choice.
~ Make a well in the center of your flour mixture, pour the wet ingredients into the well and use a fork to stir until you no longer see flour. Because we are making fluffy pancakes, the batter should be a little thick.
~ Divide your batter into 2 bowls; in one bowl, add a few drops of red food colouring.
~ Heat just enough Rinsun Sunflower Oil on medium heat. Once the oil is hot enough, use a cup or soup serving spoon to pour the batter onto your pan and spread it into a circle.
~ You’ll know it’s time to flip them pancakes when the edges turn brown and bubbles form on the surface. This should take about 2 minutes. Cook your pancakes until they are lightly browned and cooked in the middle.
~ Once all your batter is done and your red and brown pancakes are cooked, cut a heart out of the center of each pancake. Place the red hearts in the center of each brown pancake and the brown hearts in the red pancakes.
~ Sprinkle some icing sugar on top and serve hot, with fruit and syrup of your choice!
