Happy Wednesday, everyone!
Nairobi weather has been such a drain lately, but not even the gloom that has engulfed our city is dimming my shine!
If you’re anything like me, you LOVE the idea of a picnic; There’s just something different about how food, drinks and banter go down in the outdoors! 😀 I don’t set out for picnics as often as I would like, (booooo) but the anticipated Safaricom International Jazz Day is the perfect opportunity for my squad and I to lay down our picnic mats and catch up over cheap snacks, some wine and the most soothing, yet catchy jazz tunes! You probably think I’m reaching, talking about a picnic in this weather. Lol! See, first of all, the sun always shines for Safaricom Jazz At 5 (mark my words 😛 ) second, the team has obvs put top notch measures in place, to ensure we all have a fun experience, come rain or shine. 🙂 I told you guys the last time, I never miss these events and over time, I have learnt a hack or two on how to enjoy the perfect picnic experience during the Safaricom Jazz concerts!
1. Picnic basket.
If you don’t picnic as often, there may be no point to make an expensive investment for a ‘proper’ wicker-type picnic basket. There are plenty of substitute options, like this vibrant kiondoo basket, which I bought on the cheap from roadside vendors in Westlands. Just opt for something with enough room for everything you would need.
… the right spot! The Safaricom Jazz team usually set up a huge, weather proof roof structure and the trick is to get there early enough, to book a perfect spot with a good view of the stage and enough picnic room for you and your people. The concert will be going down on the 1st of May (next Tuesday) at Carnivore grounds, the gates open at 11 a.m and the concert begins at noon!
3. Choose your…
… picnic mat wisely. Bearing in mind that you will be seated for a good amount of time, your mat should have a good amount of cushioning. We learnt this the hard way, (lol!) so this time round we’ll definitely opt for a soft blanket instead.
4. A surface…
… to lay your food will go a long way for easy sharing with your friends. A tray should do the trick.
5. In case…
… you are a big group and one tray wouldn’t exactly suffice for food sharing, plastic or paper plates should be your best friend. While you’re at it, throw some plastic cups in the bag too!
6. Don’t forget…
… your drinks! Only sealed drinks will be allowed into the premises, so you may also want to consider a corkscrew for wine, or an opener for sodas and beers.
There you have it, guys! I hope this was helpful. Have you bought your Safaricom Jazz At 5 tickets yet? I will be running an exciting ticket giveaway across my Instagram page soon, so you should defo stay tuned for that!
